We made our way up to Baltimore on Saturday to attend Das Best Oktoberfest at the Timonium fair grounds. It was a fun afternoon, but not what I had expected. The event was big on beer fest, but pretty small on Oktober or anything else German.
The $20 admission fee got us a plastic "stein" and six drink tokens. Officially, 12 oz beers were two tokens, but some of the breweries were a bit lax at enforcing that. You could purchase additional tokens for $1 each, so beer was actually very reasonable as far as festivals go. The breweries were all local, or at least Maryland, based. Some of them were offering their Oktoberfest brews, but not all of them. Our favorite brewery was The Dog Brewing Company, but that was more related to the fact that they weren't charging for beer and they had a hot blond in a bar maid outfit serving the beer. The food was typical fair food, with a couple "waurst" specialties mixed in. Oh, and there was an umpah band for our listening pleasure.
One very odd thing - there were tons of small children at this event. Babies, infants, 10 yearolds. And there was absolutely nothing for them to do. I'm not really sure why anyone would bring their child to this type of drunk fest.
And I failed at convincing my husband to enter the Carry Your Wife contest. He thought there was a high likelihood of us ending up injured.
It was a fun event for the young & married crew, but probably more geared to the just young crowd.
